Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Red Cross offers a four-week Nurse Assistant Training program for $1,300 in Philadelphia and in the suburb of Lansdale. Classes take place on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The program is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and the chapter has a Pennsylvania Private School License and guarantees clinical classes with a one instructor to 10 students ratio. Fees include nursing supplies, First Aid and the cost of the Pennsylvania Nurse Assistant Competency Certification Exam.

Nurse Assistant training is nothing new at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter. Classes have been offered for the past 14 years, and the Red Cross has trained several thousand nurse assistants during this time. In 2010 the chapter trained 231 new Certified Nurse Assistant professionals.

Calhoun, Georgia

The Northwest Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross started Nurse Assistant Training in 2003. The number of students has tripled over the past three years.

Small classes of no more than 14 students are being conducted. The course cost is $670. Training runs for three weeks. Graduating students pass the Georgia certification exam at higher rates than the state average.

Many students who are working jobs with little potential for growth or who are re-entering the workforce are now taking the course. “It is a great way for students to enter the medical field; Nurse Assistant Training this gives them a jump-start,” says Laura Cleary, regional educational services director.

San Bernardino, California

The Inland Empire Chapter of the American Red Cross has provided Nurse Assistant Training for more than 15 years. The 164 hour program is offered during the day, at a cost of $1,900.

The chapter trains more than 300 nurse assistants each year, and 99 percent of students pass the State Board Competency Evaluations. Fees include the cost of the State of California Competency Exam, all course materials (except uniforms) and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider certification.

Following graduation, the Red Cross aggressively helps graduates find jobs. The job placement program is a success. A county report of participants in the Workforce Investment Act Job Training program, of which the chapter is a part, finds that 50 percent of Red Cross trained CNAs are employed, compared to about 20 percent job placement rates for graduates from other training programs.

CNA courses are led by Registered Nurses, with the assistance of Licensed Vocational Nurses. Instructors are approved by the Bureau for Private Post-Secondary and Vocational Education, accepted by the California Department of Health Services and certified by the American Red Cross.

Free CNA Training in Utah

Would you like to become a CNA in Utah? If you do you will need to find a state approved (certified) training program, and after completing that you’ll need to take and pass the state’s CNA competency exam. In some cases it may be possible to sit for the exam without entering into a training program. However, this is generally for RN or LPN nursing students who have completed nursing fundamentals courses, CNAs from other states and military medics or nursing aides. In most other cases you will need to complete a CNA course. 

Nursing assistant (CNA) training is offered at many nursing care facilities and other healthcare facilities. Many times these places will offer free training to individuals who are hired to work for the facility. Often this is based on an agreement of you working for the provider for several months or more if they will provide with you with free training.

However if you are hired by a nursing care facility and have already completed and paid for training, they may consider and often time do/will reimburse the costs. Typically it’s necessary to receive an employment offer within one year of having received certification. If you would like to try and receive reimbursement be sure to save any receipts for CNA training expenses.

Also some high schools in Utah offer training options for students who may not be planning to attend college, and nursing assistant training is often one of the courses offered. You will be able to receive your training for free if you are attending a public school. This is definately something to consider if you are still in high school and are interested in a career as a CNA.

Nursing assistant training is found in some Adult Education Centers in Utah. If you take a training program through an adult education center, you might qualify for community based scholarships and grants. This can help you to possibly receive free training. You should ask about any financial assistance programs that might be available to help you.

Low Cost Training

While most training centers in Utah normally charge around $700 for training there are a few that can be found that charge less than $400. These include the “AAA CNA training Center”(located in South Pinemont, Murray) as well as “An Act of Caring” (located in West Valley City). Both programs include at least eighty hours of training as well as clinicals at approved facilities across the state of Utah.

CNA Training Through The Workforce Investment Act

Would you like to become a CNA but can’t afford the training costs? Well here is some good news, it is sometimes possible to receive free CNA training through the Workforce Investment Act. First you should try to determine if you qualify for benefits under the WIA. Then you should look into and research the various training options available. Many states and local locations do offer certified nursing assistant training as one of the possible career training tracks. This is due to a few different reasons from there being a need of qualified CNAs and also because the training programs through this act are intended to only last for a few months or less. Often a certified nursing assistant course can be completed in 3 months or less.

Overview of the Workforce Investment Act

What is the Workforce Investment Act? It was put into place to help individuals gain access to training they might need or want in order to start a new career. Before being able to receive the benefits an individual will need to be able to prove that they meet the criteria. The overall goal of this program is the create a pool of qualified employable people in order to help those people and the businesses looking for qualified candidates.

The WIA is primarily intended to help individuals who are currently unemployed. However in some cases, there are programs to help individuals who are currently employed. Generally these programs are for individuals who earn a very low income or who do not have the skills they need to obtain better means of employment. People having a difficult time obtaining employment usually have the greatest possibility of qualifying for the WIA.

Currently local government has the ability to make the final decision of how they will implement the Workforce Investment Act. Although there are requirements setforth by the Federal Specifications and Standards. It still allows for the local government to decide how the money for the program will be used, allowing for the local administrators to determine and identify the career field that has the highest need and demand in that particular area.

The Adult Program

The Adult Workforce Investment Act Program is designed to help individuals who have reached the age of 18 or older. Individuals who are unemployed as a result of having been laid off by their most recent employer are often able to access training assistance under the WIA. There are also opportunities for individuals who would be considered displaced homemakers to receive assistance. Sometimes other individuals who have limited employment and other related struggles are also able to receive help finding employment or even training for a new career. Training to become a CNA is often one of the training opportunities offered through the Workforce Investment Act in many areas.

The Youth Program

A Youth Workforce Investment Act is also available. This program is for those individuals who fall into the range of 14-21. A young person must fall under one or more qualifying categories in order to receive training assistance under the WIA. For instance, the youth might be someone who is pregnant or who has already had a child. They can be an individual who has previously committed a crime.

There are other criteria that a young person can meet in order to receive training help. They can be someone who lives in foster care or someone who has run away from home or currently has no permanent resident. Help is out there for individuals who have dropped out of school or even those who have some type of literacy skill challenge. The Youth program is also extended to some young people who are looking to complete a training program that they already started but are having difficulty completing.

The Youth Workforce Investment Act might very well help some young people who have already graduated school or who are no longer in schools to be able to train for a career as a certified nursing assistant.
